Recent advances in materials physics of heat conduction and measurement science at multiple length-scales will
be leveraged to study two fundamental problems of heat transfer: 1) how changes in molecular structure can be
used to reduce the solid thermal conductivity of polyurethane; 2) how changes in composition and microstructure
of foam struts may influence infrared absorption and scattering and consequently reduce radiative heat transport.
